Characteristics:
100% Sangiovese, vineyard situated on a well ventilated hill top, 240 to 285m above sea level. Broad bean cover crop is used to avoid traditional fertilization. Limited skin contact to avoid excessive tannin extraction. Maturation on large oak barrels for 18 months, followed by 4 –6 months bottle maturation. Ruby red, brick red undertones. Well developed on the nose with ripe fruit and sweet spices. Well-rounded palate, with soft tannins (for Sangiovese), well balanced and long, hints of cherry, some ripe red fruits and hints of vanilla on the finish. Very enjoyable now with plenty of future potential.
Food Pairing:
This wine pairs wonderfully with vegetable-based dishes. Or go for pasta with tomato sauce, homemade pizza and lasagna. Lovely with delicately roasted or barbecued red meats. Risotto with vegetables.

Castello Vicchiomaggio is an internationally renowned Chianti producer in the Greve region in Florence, run by the Matta family. The most prominent vine is Sangiovese with Canaiolo, Colorino and the international varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
John Matta was a.o. elected IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year several times and his wines won several top marks by Wine Spectator, Decanter, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and James Suckling.
