Characteristics:
Complex and intriguing Shiraz from Franschhoek. Natural fermentation on barrel. The wine aged for 18-24 months in 85% 225L new French oak and was bottled unfiltered. Understated fynbos edge to plump black plum and vanilla spice with a hint of violets on the nose. The palate is simultaneously plush-textured and svelte but multi-faceted with plum, blueberries, ink and spice notes. A focused, linear wine which is graceful with beautifully integrated mature oak notes. The tail is long, spicy, rewarding and intricate. Cellaring potential of 8-10 years.

Food pairing:
Serve with red meat, beef, venison and lamb. Stews and recipes with spicy and tangy marinades adore this Syrah.

About this winery:
The history of the winery dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is international businessman and wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The flagship portfolio carries his own name. Only the best grapes are selected and the cellar is state of the art.
