Bloemendal Estate Chardonnay 2018
Characteristics:
Dry full bodied Chardonnay with mineral backbone; aromas and flavours of citrus, lime, nectarine, fresh peaches and young apricots carrying acidity throughout the wine with long finish. Grapes selected from a single vineyard planted on the cool Southern slope of the Kanonberg mountain in Durbanville. 23 year old vines. The wine aged for 11 months on new (40%) and second fill (60%) French oak barrels. Can develop on the bottle for a further 5 tot 8 years. Only 3900 bottles were made of vintage 2018.
Food pairing:
Superb with fish cooked in butter (e.g. sole meunière), roast chicken, poached salmon, seared scallops, mushroom risotto and caesar salad.
Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2021
Characteristics:
Classy Burgundy style Pinot Noir. Firm and resonating with anticipation, its flavour profile is slowly unfolding where a little patience will offer a generous palate of fruits of the forest flavours and development of complex cherry and dark berry tones. Polished and lingering, it will benefit from ageing.10 months on French oak barrels (30% new) contributed to a delicious wine and will allow an extended maturation.
Food pairing:
Delicate and tender meats, cooked 'Rosé', like lamb, veal or goat, in natural and refined sauces. The winemaker loves it with seared salmon. Go for grilled vegetables or fine Italian dishes with tomato sauce.
Neil Ellis Whitehall Chardonnay 2019
Characteristics:
Attractive bouquet of honeysuckle, white fruit, marzipan, hazelnut and flinty minerals. The pallet is harmonious and textural and finishes with beautifully balanced acidity, long and flavoursome mid pallet with rich texture. The grapes are whole bunch pressed, 100% barrel fermented and spend 9 months in 228l French oak barrels of which 33% is new. A high-class wine and a clear expression of the cool Elgin terroir.
Food pairing:
Serve with salmon, fish, seafood and white meat, grilled or with butter or creamy sauces. Or cheeses: brie, comté, mozzarella and Swiss gruyère.
Coppola Director's Cut Pinot Noir 2019
Characteristics:
Young red berries and soft tannins. Soft aromas of raspberries, cherries, plums, a touch of pepper and clove. 6 months on French oak, 40% new.
Food pairing:
Delicate and tender meats, cooked 'Rosé', like lamb, veal or goat, in natural and refined sauces.
Buena Vista Carneros Chardonnay 2020
Characteristics:
Elegant but full-bodied. Pure Carneros expression with bright citrus aromas of lemon and tangarine, stone fruits and toasted oak. The palate has a refined minerality, a touch of oak, pear, lemon cream en fresh apple, all lingering through a refreshing finish.
Food pairing:
Combine with creamy dishes of white fish, white meat, sweetbread or with ripened cheeses.
Black Stallion Pinot Noir Carneros 2020
Characteristics:
Elegant Burgundy style with a complex palate. Over 3/4 of this vintage comes from the Napa side of Carneros and the remaining is sourced from the Sonoma side. Clones from the vineyard include Dijon 777, Pommard and Martini. Balanced wood maturation in French oak. Aromas and flavours of red fruit, pomegranate, young cherry and strawberry with a hint of spice. Notes of damp earth, some truffles.
Food pairing:
Serve with poached salmon, poultry or lamb. Or go for grilled vegetables or fine Italian dishes with tomato sauce.
