Characteristics:
The vineyards are situated on the southern slopes of the Kasteelberg, where there is more clay in the soil mixed with Malmesbury shale. The terroir gives a deeper and richer style red blend, 64% Shiraz and 33% Mourvèdre, 2% Viognier and 1% Petit Syrah (Durif) are added. Aged in a combination of 4th and 5th fill 225l barrels and cement tanks, for 16-18 months. Bottle-aged for 3 years. Appealing ripe black plum, spice and tobacco leaf notes on the nose. Succulent red and black fruit in the mouth along with spicy tobacco and earthy notes. Structured but velvety texture with a long, smoothly rewarding finish.

Food pairing:
Game birds, lamb & cream based pastas, stuffed tomatoes and grilled aubergines.

About the winery:
The history of L'Ormarins in Franschhoek dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The Cape of Good Hope Wines are made from some of the oldest South African vines, planted in the prime regions of Darling, Swartland and Elandskloof. Unique terroirs which give elegant and refined wines.
