Dry white wine made of grapes sourced from Swartland, Paarl and Wellington. Aromas of apple, white pear and summer fruits are supported by gentle floral notes. The palate is clean and refreshing, with succulent flavours of white peach and kiwi fruit vying for dominance. Crispy apple, pear and nectarine flavours are also present and beautifully balanced with a firm, fresh acidity which lingers seamlessly in a long finish.
Pair with fresh seafood including crab, prawns and, most particularly, oysters. Serve with smoked salmon or trout, squid or sushi. Or with spring vegetables like asparagus, light seafood pasta dishes and risottos.
About the winery:
Protea wines are handcrafted at L’Ormarins Wine Estate in Franschhoek. History goes back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The range is named after the Protea flower which is so distinctive of the rich Cape Floristic region. The wines are fresh and clean, have an appealing style and are packed in an innovative and re-usable bottle.
