Vibrant black cherry and plum aromas with a hint of tomato plant
and dark chocolate. The wines has instant appeal with soft, squish, succulent dark
fruit with a light tobacco leaf edge. Ample plum and cherry with spice highlights and
deeper earth- and cocoa notes below. Lovely, generous ripe-fruited finish. 12 months of French wood ageing. Grapes selected from Darling, Robertson and Paarl.
This is a 'crowd pleaser': serve with spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna (also the veggie variant), mac & cheese, meatloaf or (cheese) burgers. Pairs with roast turkey, braised ribs & chicken, pork or rabbit casseroles with a fruity element such as apricots or prunes.
About the winery:
Protea wines are handcrafted at L’Ormarins Wine Estate in Franschhoek. History goes back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The range is named after the Protea flower which is so distinctive of the rich Cape Floristic region. The wines are fresh and clean, have an appealing style and are packed in an innovative and re-usable bottle.
