Characteristics:
Fine red medium-bodied wine with aromas of black cherries and soft herbs. Flavours of blueberries, spicy plums, star anise and clove. Soft texture with a long pleasant aftertaste. Grapes mainly sourced from the cool Darling region. Aged for 12 months on staves and 3rd fill barrels. Rated 91 Points by James Suckling.
Food Pairing:
Serve with grilled or roast beef, with a pepper sauce. Ideal companion for a BBQ with ribs and sausages and grilled vegetables. Serve with roast or grilled lamb.
About the winery:
Protea wines are handcrafted at L’Ormarins Wine Estate in Franschhoek. History goes back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The range is named after the Protea flower which is so distinctive of the rich Cape Floristic region. The wines are fresh and clean, have an appealing style and are packed in an innovative and re-usable bottle.
