Survivor Bushvine Chenin Blanc Reserve 2020 Swartland

Characteristics:
Low-yielding bushvines in Swartland on deep red soils with excellent water retention, benefitting optimally from the cool Benguela current sea breezes. Hand harvested in the early morning hours. 80% of the wine was naturally fermented on French 400-litre barrel. Rich green-gold colour, aromas of lemon and dried herbs, flavours of creamy orchard fruit and subtle vanilla oak. Only 2200 bottles are produced & vegan friendly wines. Round, harmonious & balanced – a Chenin triumph!

Food Pairing:
Great companion to fish, sea food (calamari, lobster, mussels & lemon butter prawns), poultry and fresh garden salads. Excellent with vegetarian dishes and pairs well with roasted sweet potatoes and butternut. Goes well with game birds. The wine has sufficient structure to pair with lamb and pork.

About this winery:
Survivor is a boutique winery which produces premium wines. Chardonnay grapes are sourced from cool climate region Elgin, close to the Atlantic Ocean, where the combination of climate-moderating factors give slower ripening and thus more-balanced wine with great complexity. The Pinotage and the Chenin bushvine grapes grow in the premium dry Swartland region, where the dominant soil is shale with pockets of granite and farming techniques are irrigation-free. Bush vines dig deep and give concentrated flavours in the grapes. The Nguni pictured on the label are a well known cattle breed in Southern Africa and regarded as a status symbol by the Zulu tribes.
