CWG Rijk's Pinotage 2010

Characteristics:
World-class pinotage. Deep red color, with intense aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries. Hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Balanced with elegant tannins. Maturation potential of more than 10 years. Harvested in the fresh hours of the night. 56 hours of cold maceration preceded the fermentation. 3 times a day pigeage to get more tannin and color extraction. 22 months on French oak barrels (33% new, the rest second filling)

Baked or grilled red meats, ground game, full flavour sauces.

About the winery:
Wijnmaker van Ryk's is Pierre Wahl, who accurately selects the best terroirs for this Pinotage in Tulbagh. Pierre is also a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild. This Guild holds an auction of exceptional cuvées annually, available only through the CWG auction in Stellenbosch. The proceeds go to the education of talented but disadvantaged student wineries.
