Characteristics:
Dry full bodied Chardonnay with mineral backbone; aromas and flavours of citrus, lime, nectarine, fresh peaches and young apricots carrying acidity throughout the wine with long finish. Grapes selected from a single vineyard planted on the cool Southern slope of the Kanonberg mountain in Durbanville. 23 year old vines. The wine aged for 11 months on new (40%) and second fill (60%) French oak barrels. Can develop on the bottle for a further 5 tot 8 years. Only 3900 bottles were made of vintage 2018.

Food pairing:
Superb with fish cooked in butter (e.g. sole meunière), roast chicken, poached salmon, seared scallops, mushroom risotto and caesar salad.

About the winery:
Established in 1702 as a farm providing fresh produce to the East Indian ships on their way to the spice islands. It is located in Durbanville Wine Valley region, with vineyards on the south facing slopes of Kanonkop to the north facing Tygerberg Hills. Deep soils with good water retention allow dryland farming. Cooling sea breezes, night-time mists and close proximity to the ocean are all beneficial factors when it comes to the quality of the grapes.
