Characteristics:
Delightful blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. Grapes handpicked in Franschhoek and Darling. Aged separately for 20 months on 225l French oak (30% new), blended and aged for a further 6 months and bottle-matured for 24 months before release. Silky aromas of dark berry fruit, fruitcake, black cherry, baking spice and pencil shavings. Balanced with seamless integration of oak and ripe, rich fruit with lovely succulence and freshness as well. Complex, supple and silky smooth, the wine is ultimately simply delicious with a superbly long tail. Cellaring potential of 10 years +!
Foodpairing:
Pair with grilled and roast lamb with garlic and rosemary. Roast beef and venison. Richer steak dishes such as tournedos rossini, posh burgers or Japanese-style steak dishes. And a fine Christmas turkey!
About this winery:
The history of the winery dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is international businessman and wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The flagship portfolio carries his own name. Only the best grapes are selected and the cellar is state of the art.
