Characteristics:
66 (!) year old bushvines of Groendruif (Semillon) planted in 1956 on Skurfberg Mountain overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. 40% of the wine spent 6 months on the lees on large French 2nd fill foudres (500l), the balance remained unoaked. 7% Sauvignon Blanc was added. Delicate and refined, with flavours of grapefruit, lime and cucumber elegantly supported by a lively, mineral acidity and creamy texture. Distinct salinity and dry citrus pith flavours linger in a long, lip smacking tail. Complex and already delightful will reward with careful cellaring and age with distinction.

Food pairing:
Serve with scallops, grilled lobster, prawns, salmon and salmon trout. Or try it with seafood risotto or with grilled or barbecued fish. Delicious with aspargus à la Flamande (with butter sauce and boiled egg).

About the winery:
The history of L'Ormarins in Franschhoek dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The Cape of Good Hope Wines are made from some of the oldest South African vines, planted in the prime regions of Darling, Swartland and Elandskloof. Unique terroirs which give elegant and refined wines.

5 star review John Platter Wine Guide 2021

"Such richness (without the sugar), detail & depth can only be achieved from carefully farmed old vines; here Citrusdal Mountain’s Henk Laing is the hero. Lemon thyme & earth notes, waxy roundness, quince lift among the exquisite details perfectly supported by 23% old-oaked portion. Modestly priced stellar quality."
