Characteristics:
Grapes from Elandskloof, an isolated valley in Overberg (Cape South Coast), surrounded by steep mountains and planted on 800m elevation. The cool climate brings high natural acidity and upfront aromas, and causes the harvest to usually start early March, much later than other sites in SA. Intense Pinot Noir character with rich red fruit and very fine and layered structure. Barrel maturation of 10 months on 225l French oak.

Food pairing:
Serve with poached salmon, poultry or lamb. Or go for grilled vegatables or fine Italian dishes with tomato sauce.

About this winery:
The history of L'Ormarins in Franschhoek dates back to 1694 when Huguenot Jean Roi planted 4000 vines beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. Current owner is wine connoisseur Anthonij Rupert. The Cape of Good Hope Wines are made from some of the oldest South African vines, planted in the prime regions of Darling, Swartland and Elandskloof. Unique terroirs which give elegant and refined wines.
