Characteristics:
2022 vintage marks the 100th consecutive vintage of Alto Rouge, South Africa's red wine full of history! Blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Shiraz with 12% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. 18 months on oak, mostly French, some of seasoned. The colour is dense with a crimson rim, aromas of autumn fruit and fynbos, tastes of plum, black berries, dry fig, pine-needle and graphite plush yet firm tannins. Fine vintage with the proven ageability of Alto Rouge.
Food pairing:
Combine with red meat: beef, lamb, venison, accompanied by flavourful sauces. Can be enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
About the winery:
Alto has a famous and unique terroir, high on the slopes of the Helderberg, with the influence of the cool sea breeze coming from the west. In this environment, the grapes can ripen slowly, which gives beautiful aromas and nicely developed tastes. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz feel unbelievably well in this region.
