Characteristics:
Complex, full-bodied and perfectly balanced Cabernet Sauvignon from Stellenbosch, crafted by Cabernet connoisseur-winemaker De Wet Viljoen. Deep ruby colour, attractive aromatics of cassis and sugarbush, harmonised with cedar and earthy  characteristics. Full-bodied wine with a beautiful fresh intro leading to a long finish displaying flavours of spice, cherries and cloves.  Wood ageing of 18 months in a combination of 33% new and 67% second-fill French oak. Only three of the finest barrels were selected and a total of 1,197 bottles were filled on 6 August 2019. Ready to enjoy now, but will most definitely benefit from further aging of between 10 and 15 years, as any great Cabernet Sauvignon is known to do.

Food pairing:
Try with grilled red meat, roast lamb with rosemary or thyme, pork or turkey. For the vegetarians, good old mac & cheese is great especially if extra-cheesy while an equally-cheesy mushroom risotto will also do the trick!

About the winery:
The story about this historic estate dates 300 years back to 1692 when Willem Barend Lubbe settled on the flanks of the Bottelary hills. The property counts 273 hectares of which 163 are planted with vines. The vineyards enjoy the Atlantic sea breeze that brings refreshment every afternoon. The beautiful driveway and the towering fountain make the vineyard one of the most recognizable of the Cape. Neethlingshof aims high in protecting the biodiversity on the estate. 1802 to which this special release refers was a significant year in Neethlingshof’s history. It’s the year Charles and Maria Magdalena Marais put the finishing touches to the Neethlingshof Wine Cellar.
