Characteristics
This Barolo comes from the Castelletto vineyard of Monforte d'Alba. It is a single vineyard facing east, enjoying the morning sun and overlooking a fresh and breezy valley. Tense and fascinating character, of particular depth. Marine and salty scents are overwhelmed by ripe cherries, plums and pomegranate, with delicate flavours of rose petal, dried lavender and liquorice dust. Compact tannins, most typical of Barolo.
Food paring
Nice companion to steak tartare, grilled steak, sweetbreads and beef or veal dishes with mushrooms or truffles. Combine with feathered game, such as partridge, pheasant, wild duck and pigeon or guineafowl and quail. A classic with risotto with porcini or ceps.
About this winery
Piedmont is one of the most fascinating regions in the wine world today. Poderi Gianni Gagliardo is a family winery located in La Morra in Langhe, the heart of Piedmont, a region of rolling vineyards on hills that follow the curves of the Tanaro River south of Alba. La Morra is known as a top appellation for Barolo wines with a fine, floral wine style. Barbera gives juicy, lively reds to drink young and fresh and the indigenous grape, Nebbiolo, is widely praised for its fruit, aromas, and smoky subtlety.
